The Golden Rule

– “Do unto others, what you would have done to you.” Act towards others how you would like to be treated. If we look upon everyone as our self or dearest relative, we would not hate, deceive or injure. We would behave only with love and compassion. If people followed the golden rule it would transform the world.

Universal Human Rights

The concept of universal human rights is a practical extension of the golden rule. It means we give everyone individual liberty and protection from injustice, regardless of their race, sex, nationality or other categorisation.

Liberty

The concept of liberty is the idea that we give others the freedom to make their own choices – so long as their decisions don’t injure other people in the process. It means we allow people the right to pursue happiness in their own fashion and don’t try to influence people’s behaviour.

What you Give To Others You Will Receive

If you want to be happy, we need to offer happiness to others. If we want to be loved, we need to love others. If we injure others, we will hurt ourselves. If we seek to assert our superiority over others, we will never feel content and happy.

Ours is not the only way

Humans have often suffered because people have felt their beliefs, their country, their way of life is superior. This sense of superiority has given people the justification to kill and destroy the liberty of others. When we feel ours is not the only way or not even the best way, we become tolerant and accepting of other approaches.

Gratitude

“There are two ways of looking at the world, one is as if everything is a miracle, another as if nothing is a miracle.” (N.B. check quote)

– Albert Einstein.

When we have soulful gratitude, we can be sincerely happy. Gratitude enables us to appreciate and value the good things in life. We can get joy from wherever we are.
